My memory is not what it used to be, but didn’t his brother Bob Askey play for the Rovers, thought John may have?

Rob,
From my memory - which has been described as poor on many occasion!!, I recall Bob was a centre forward, tall (ish) good in the air...I recon it must have been around 1986....as a guess when he played for us (the rovers)
And acquired the nick-name of "Turbo" during his time with us if I [also] remember correctly.![]()

My almanac says that Bob played for us during the last three month's of season 87/88. He scored 5 goals in 22 starts. The highlight of his Rovers career was probably his two goals in the first leg of The Southern League cup semi-final at home against then arch-rivals Dartford which we won 3-1. The low-light and also one of mine in xx seasons was the 3-0 defeat at Dartford in the second leg.![]()
