Reckey

...Carter profile

Reckey was a prolific scorer in schoolboy and junior football. He started his senior career at Kidderminster Harriers, playing for the reserves in the 1988/89 season.

He moved onto Worcester City and Malvern Town, before he joined Solihull Borough. He goal scoring feats there, including 40 goals in 57 games in the 1992/93 season interested both Port Vale and Birmingham City and earned him a trial at the blues in pre-season in the 1993/94 campaign.

However, he joined the Rovers at the start of the 1993/94 Conference season, and made his debut against Macclesfield Town on 24 August 1993 scoring two goals. His performances and goals over the next few years, in the highest standard of football the Rovers ever played at ensured legendary status at the club.

He was Rovers leading scorer in 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons, and he had a knack of scoring goals in cup finals. He played in 3 Worcestershire Senior Cup winning sides, scoring 6 goals in final ties. He also netted 5 goals in 2 successful Conference League Cup winning teams. He also scored one of the Rovers most famous goals against Northampton Town in the F.A. Cup first round, the Rovers only victory over a Football League side in that competition, and went on to play against Yeovil Town and Barnsley in the Rovers greatest ever cup run, where they reached the Third Round, losing 2-1 to the second tier side in front of 4,983 fans at the Victoria Ground.

He moved to Kettering at the start of the 1996/97 season, but he soon moved back to Solihull Borough in November 1996 when he was their record signing, costing £17,000.

He joined Rovers for a second spell in December 1997 and played under both Brian Kenning and Steve Daley. He did not quite hit the heights he had reached in his first spell and played his final game for the Rovers against Weymouth on 24 April 1999.

After leaving Rovers he played for Smethwick Rangers and Barnt Green Spartak
