...Edwards profile

Compton Edwards was born in Jamaica in 1950, his family moved to England when he was five. He spent three seasons with Aston Villa as an amateur after leaving school and won a Birmingham county F.A. cap. After 12 Central League appearances for Villa he joined Midland Combination side Paget Rangers and trained to become an electrician. After two seasons, Compton moved onto Redditch United in the West Midlands League, but he returned to Paget after three months. He then had spells with Alvechurch and Cinderford Town as well as a three month trial period with Bristol City before joining Worcester City on Christmas Eve 1974 at the same time as Barry Williams. They were the first players to be signed by Nobby Clark.
He was an instant hit, scoring 6 goals in 7 games and entertaining the City fans by coming onto the pitch in what amounted to fancy dress including wearing a hat, a cap and raincoat and carrying an umbrella.
“Combo" sooner attracted the attention of other Southern League clubs including Banbury, Nuneaton and Redditch, and Nobby Clark responded by putting him on a contract.
However, his second season didnt go so well and in November 1975 he was fined, suspended and put on the transfer list after twice being selected for the reserves and then failing to turn up. Compton didnt play again after January 1976 and was released at the end of the season. He had scored 31 goals in 55 first team appearances.
