...Wood profile

Edmund "Ed" Eli Wood was a 5 foot 10 inch half back who joined at the start of the 1925/26 season. He had Football League experience, playing 50 games for for Northampton. He had also played for Rhyl Athletic and Atherstone Town. He had just moved to Barnt Green and set up a business as a coal dealer and haulage contractor.

In March 1926 he successfully played in a trial match at the Victoria Ground for a place in the Birmingham Combination side to play the London Combination in April. The Combination XI beat the London side 3-1.

After a season where he was ever present and the leading goalscorer with 11 goals and his performances were one of the few bright spots in what was a dismal season for the Rovers, he returned to the Football League signing for Birmingham.

He made just the one first team appearance for the Blues. He later had spells at Rhyl Athletic, signing for Newcastle United for £950 in May 1928, where he played 9 times in the First Division and also Runcorn.
