Steve

...Stott profile

Steve was equally at home in midfield or up front. He was given his debut by manager Bobby Hope against Stourbridge in the Southern League Midlands Division in March 1985.

He quickly established himself in the side, and was a key member of the team that won the Southern League Cup and got promoted from the Southern League Midland Division in 1985/86.

His career was interrupted in September 1986 when he broke his leg in a match against Aylesbury and missed most of the 1986/87 campaign.

He moved to Alvechurch at the start of the 1987/88 season where he stayed for just the one campaign. With Bobby Hope returning for his second stint as manager at the start of 1989/90, Steve also returned to the Rovers.

In a very successful second spell which included games in the first round of the F.A.Cup against Basingstoke and Bournemouth and appearances in the Rovers most successful F.A. Cup run to the third round in 1993/94, where they lost 2-1 at home to Barnsley, having previously defeated Northampton and Yeovil Town.

He also was an integral part of the side that achieved promotion to the Conference in 1991/92 and finished runners-up in the Conference in their debut season.

He also played in four Worcestershire Senior cup finals, winning 3 and was part of the side that won the Conference League Cup in 1994/95.

Whilst at the Rovers he was selected to play for the England semi-professional side, playing in a 1-0 win against Wales in February 1995 and coming on as sub in a 0-0 draw against Holland in April.

He moved to Kettering Town just before the start of the 1995/96 season. Then he signed for Rushden & Diamonds in December 1995 for a £30,000 transfer fee. After helping Diamonds to the Beazer Home Premier Division title, he also helped them to survive their first season in the Conference, making 37 appearances that season, despite suffering an injury in the FA Cup tie against Bilston Town in October 1996 which kept him sidelined for three months. Diamonds had a poor start to the 1997/1998 season and when Yeovil Town put in an offer of £9.000 in September 1997, it was accepted and he joined the Glovers.

He became Yeovils club captain under Gary Johnson, but suffered a knee injury early in the 1999/2000 season resulting in an operation on 20 December 1999. He had little chance of returning to first team action at Huish Park, so left at the end of March 2000 to join Woking. He was released in the summer of 2001, and joined Slough Town, later becoming their assistant manager. In September 2002, Steve moved a step down again, this time with Wessex League side Thatcham Town where he ended his career.
