...Burgher profile

Symon Burgher was a very talented midfield player who had been signed by Exeter City, firstly as a schoolboy on his 14th birthday and then as an apprentice.

He made 16 appearances, scoring seven goals for Exeter City in the Devon and Exeter Premier League in 1984/85.

He became a full professional in February 1985 and made his debut for the Grecians a few days earlier when he lined up against Aldershot at St James Park in a 3-0 win. Despite seemingly having a promising footballing career ahead of him, he asked to be released at the end of the season so he could follow his religious beliefs with the Seventh Day Adventist Church which prevented him from playing on Saturday afternoons. Symon returned to the West Midlands and played non-league football, but only in midweek matches.

He had a spell at Redditch United, before joining the Rovers, making his debut against Worcester City on 2 November 1991.

He was Rovers "midweek marvel" for the next 6 seasons, during which time he turned down the option of joining Aston Villa due to his religious beliefs.

In his time with the Rovers, he was part of the side which achieved promotion to the Conference for the first time under Bobby Hope in 1991/92. He played in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final victory against Sutton Coldfield Town in the same season, scoring a goal in the second leg tie. He was part of the side who finished as Runner-Up in the Conference in their debut season, the high point in the history of Bromsgrove Rovers.

In 1993/94 He again played in the final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup, this time being victorious over two legs against Kidderminster Harriers.

While in 1994/95 he played played in 2 more cup winning sides, triumphing in the Worcestershire Senior Cup and Conference League Cup against Moor Green and Kettering Town respectively.
