Match Report
Sporting travelled over to Coventry last Saturday for their fourth pre-season friendly. Sphinx play in the Midland Football Alliance, one step up for the Rouslers and for the majority of the game matched or even bettered their opponents coming away with a credible goalless draw.

Sporting had the better of the first half controlling the midfield and creating more chances. But their weakness was in front of goal where a little more sharpness could have had them two or three up by half-time. The home side though did not fare much better blasting wide or over the bar when banging it into the net looked to be the easier option.

Sam Wilkinson looked capable in midfield spraying round useful passes whilst Elliot Nash made good use of long-range balls. Keeper Aaron Gayle was the first half hero making several useful saves, one in particular from the feet of a Sphinx striker just as he was about to shoot.

With the temperature slowing the pace in the second-half, both teams relied more on patient build-ups. Sporting lost a bit of their rhythm with a number of substitutions but across the board all players gave a good account of themselves even if they failed to find the back of the net.

After the match, joint coach Les Palmer said "I was pleased with the performance especially in the first half when we created more chances. The defence was solid and it shows that the team could do well against higher placed opponents."

Sporting's next matches are on Tuesday 30th when they play Black Country Rangers at Tividale FC, 7:45 kick-off then next Saturday, 3rd August Stratford Town, newly promoted to the Southern League are guests at the Victoria Ground for a 3 p.m. start.
