Bromsgrove Sporting 1 Castle Vale JKS 1

Sporting fail to punish Vale.

Bromsgrove were made to rue missed opportunities as they were held to a draw by a spirited Castle Vale at the Victoria Ground on Tuesday evening. Matt Poyner scored in consecutive games for Sporting, however in the second half Vale's Reece Smallwood responded to give the league's bottom side a hard fought point.

Bromsgrove started brightly with Stefan Ashman causing problems down the right flank. He created the first meaningful attempt of the game when his flick on was collected by Matt Poyner who crossed low into the box only for Jake Brown to blaze over. Lightning struck twice almost immediately afterwards when a cross from a similar position fell to Brown who this time guided the ball wide. Bromsgrove were on top for the majority of the first half but were just missing that final ball but eventually their persistence paid off.

In the 36th minute Sporting won a corner which was swung in by Chris Duggan. Vale's keeper came off his line to punch clear, straight to Matt Poyner on the edge of the area who expertly chipped into the back of the net. The Rouslers nearly doubled their lead before half time when Lewis Clarke strode forward and crossed well only for the keeper's interception to deny Poyner a tap in.

The second half saw a more dogged Castle Vale performance and a lacklustre one from the home side. Sporting were struggling to kick on from the first half and Vale nearly equalised when their striker Brad Hall was set through one on one, only to be denied by a superb challenge from Chris Gleadow. Vale's hard work paid off on the 64th minute as they exploited Sporting's high line when Hall put Reece Smallwood through on goal who finished well under pressure.

The game became extremely stretched with chances for both sides at either end. In virtually the last kick of the game Jake Bedford launched a free kick in the Vale area which fell to defender Gleadow who agonisingly clipped the crossbar. After the game Adrian Mander was left to wonder how the game may have unfolded had Sporting taken their first half chances but was full of praise for the revitalised Castle Vale
