Match Report | Programme
A game of two halves at least for Warwick who one suspects had been reading Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde before the match rather than the FA Coaching Manual.

Sporting attempted to play their favourite game from the outset moving the ball around frequently and quickly despite the uneven pitch and grass that looked in desperate need of a mow.
Although on the back foot for much of the half the home side defended well though in numbers to keep Sporting out whilst relying on quick breaks themselves.

The only goal of the first period was on the 12th minute which Mark Bellingham despatched ruthlessly from the penalty spot after Sean Williams had been upended making a run into the box.

The first half though did not portend to events in the second half. Warwick clearly came out well fired up after their half-time cup of tea and pressed immediately for the equaliser with Elliott Powell forcing a good save from Sporting 'keeper Jake Bedford early on. Sean Williams though remained the main threat to the home defence and he then had to endure three very heavy tackles, each of which could have merited a red card but referee Mr Hands just dished a couple of yellows. Was the intention to take Sean Williams out of the game? I guess only the Warwick players knew that.

Anyway Sporting did make some attempt to play football and doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Mark Bellingham made a good run at goal. Warwick 'keeper Conal Dowling dived well to dispossess the away striker but the loose ball simply ran to Billy Russell who unmarked gratefully blasted home. What Warwick manager, Michael Hayden saw that nobody else did is difficult to say but it caused him to go apoplectic at the match officials and to no great surprise was ordered into the stand.

Substitute Chris Duggan had only been on the pitch fifteen minutes when he attempted to match Warwick at their own game with a heavy challenge on Terence Morton. Probably no worse than those earlier on Sean Williams but he was less fortunate and went off for an early shower. Cue for a fair amount of jostling and 'discussions' with the referee that held up play for several minutes and resulted in another three yellow cards.
So here we were again with a two-goal lead and playing with ten men. Could Sporting hold on this time?

Well they did, but not before Warwick's Jamie Corrigan got one back on 90 minutes causing the travelling band of away fans to sweat out six minutes of added time.

Not a pretty match and the attitude of the home team left a lot to be desired which was a pity because they looked to be a good footballing side. With Brocton drawing, Sporting gained another two points on the leaders. On Saturday they are away to Coventry Copsewood whilst Brocton entertain Warwick. Now that might be an interesting match!
