The Reds entertained one of the pre season favourites at Evans Park after winning their first match in midweek. The visitors started the game strongly and dominated possession but the home side defence stood firm and withstood the early pressure and a series of corners. Bromsgrove were reduced to long range shots. After 14 minutes Joe Adams reached a long ball down field but his drive went just wide of Dale Reaney's goal, in the 28th minute a shot from Sean Brain flashed just wide of Reaney's post. Little was seen of the home attack as the defenders worked hard to keep Bromsgrove at bay. 2 minutes into the 2nd half Anthony Roman cleared a goal bound shot off the line when Reaney was beaten, 3 minutes later Brain ran at the home goal but Chris Morris got back to close him down and Reaney saved the shot. After 53 minutes Bromsgrove won a free kick just outside the penalty area but Adams shot was well saved by Reaney. 3 minutes later Jack Edwards had a rare chance for Town but his shot went straight at Brendon Bunn. Josh McKenzie's run created a chance for Adams but Reaney saved again. Bromsgrove finally broke Town's resistance when a free kick was awarded for a foul on the edge of the penalty area and Simon Fitter drove the ball into the net despite Reaney getting a hand to the ball he couldn't keep the ball out. 10 minutes later the visitors clinched the points with another free kick which Fitter took and again beat Reaney. Roman hit the Bromsgrove post 10 minutes from time following a free kick. Town battled hard against one of the better sides in the Division and were only beaten by 2 quality set piece goals. |
