Bromsgrove Sporting FC v Coventry United FC
Midland Football League Division 1
No 96
Well hello one and all. After another week off due to the weather we finally have a game today and what a game we have!!! Today the Red and Green Army travel to Bromsgrove Sporting to contest this top of the table clash. Bromsgrove are on a fine run of form at the moment and are itching to cement their place at the top with victory today.
CUFC manager Edwin Greaves will have to make sure his players are up for this game as this is sure to be a very tough hard fought game with plenty to play for. Callum Burgess is also sure to be a big loss after picking up an injury in the last game.
The Red and Green Army have definitely turned up in numbers to hopefully cheer their team on to victory.
The referee gets the game underway and the game starts with a good tempo as both teams look to impose themselves early doors. The 8th minute sees CUFC win a free kick in a good position taken by Joshua O'Grady that sees captain Chris Cox head well wide of the target.
BSFC waste no time in pressing forward themselves when after a long punt up field sees the BSFC No.11 Sean Brain spring the CUFC defence to race on to the ball before coolly slotting the ball past the keeper Richard Morris for the opening goal.
BSFC 1 CUFC 0
The game resumes and CUFC find themselves down to an early goal. The home fans making themselves heard in their celebrations. CUFC will need to respond now to try and get themselves back in the game. But its in fact BSFC who respond again in the 13th minute when they push forward again. The BSFC No 11 Sean Brain who has made a great start to the game feeds a great pass to the BSFC No 9 Connor Collins who finds space and time before placing a precise shot past keeper Richard Morris for a second goal.
BSFC 2 CUFC 0
CUFC are in shock. What a start from BSFC and CUFC now have a bit of a mountain to climb. CUFC can't seem to get out of their own half at the minute with BSFC looking to press forward with the long ball down the slope at every opportunity and to good effect at that. The 18th minute sees things go from bad to worse when the BSFC No 8 Reece Hewitt pick up the ball in midfield before skipping past three CUFC players and racing clear. He steadies himself before smashing the ball past the keeper Richard Morris for a three goal lead inside 20 minutes.
BSFC 3 CUFC 0
Well if the CUFC players were in shock, they are now surely dumbstruck by what's just happened. They have just conceded three goals in the space of 8 minutes. That mountain has just got a whole lot higher. CUFC are still yet to have a shot on target and I have to admit that it's probably the first time in a very long time that I have said that about a CUFC side 20 minutes into a game!!!
The 21st minute sees the BSFC No6 Simon Fitter gets himself booked for a tackle on Joshua O'Grady with the resulting free kick being badly over hit and comes to nothing.
CUFC have stemmed the BSFC flow for now and the 38th minute sees BSFC make an early change when they take off No7 Will Tibbetts and send on No 17 Jack Wilson.
The first half is drawing to a close and BSFC are finishing it strongly when in the 41st minute they break forward and CUFC keeper Richard Morris races out of his goal to attempt to meet the ball but with him way out of goal the ball is switched across to the No 10 Liam Spink who in turn fires high and wide of an empty goal when he looked certain to score. The referee blows up for half time and what a half that was.

Second Half
The second half gets under way and CUFC are now playing down the slope. CUFC have also made a half time change by taking off Mathew Brown and sending on Miuziwandile Nduna.
BSFC start this half in the same vein as the first and are soon presented with another good chance after a defensive error sees the BSFC No 11 Sean Brain in space in the area but only manages to fire over from close range in the 48th minute. The next three minutes sees BSFC force a couple of more set pieces that both come to nothing before CUFC mount their first serious attack on goal in the 54th minute. Ben Vallance puts over a great cross that picks out Ross Briscoe. He turned sweetly before sending a fine finish into the back of the net to bring CUFC back into the game.
BSFC 3 CUFC 1
Can CUFC get themselves another goal to put some pressure on BSFC? The 56th minute sees the BSFC No 8 Reece Hewitt go into the referee's book for a foul on Joshua O'Grady with the resulting free kick coming to nothing.
BSFC are not resting on their laurels and are looking for more goals. Their next chance comes in the 60th minute when they break forward again in the form of the impressive No 11 Sean Brain who once again finds himself in space before seeing his shot being well saved by keeper Richard Morris. The pressure is kept up on CUFC and in the 63rd minute they win a corner that's taken by No4 Nathan Walker. His cross goes deep into the area and the ball is knocked out to the lurking No2 Aaron Roberts who sends a thunderbolt of a shot into the back of the net for a great finish.
BSFC 4 CUFC 1
Well I think that just about seals it for BSFC now. BSFC then decide to make another change in the 64th minute by taking off No4 Nathan Walker and sending on No 16 Luke Dugmore. CUFC make another change too in the 68th minute by taking off Gift Mussa and sending on Joshua Blake.
CUFC were lucky not to find themselves another goal down when in the 75th minute CUFC's Jamie Coleman looked to have pulled BSFC's No 11 Sean Brain's shirt inside the area but the ref waived the penalty appeal away.
The 80th minute sees BSFC make their final change by taking off the No9 Connor Collins and sending on No 14 Sam Wills.
The game is now drawing to its end as Joshua O'Grady weaves his way into the area before being brought down with the ref pointing straight to the spot in the 88th minute. Chris Cox steps up to take it and fires into the left hand corner to claim a token consolation goal as time runs out.

Full Time
BSFC 4 CUFC 2
In summing up this game it was all about who wanted it more. The game started pretty even with both sides probing the other without actually creating much until that mad eight minute spell in which BSFC scored three coolly taken goals to open up a massive first half lead. The second half started pretty much in the same way but CUFC managed to pull one back but it wasn't too long before the three goal lead was restored and CUFC then scoring again at the death with a late penalty.
To be fair BSFC thoroughly deserved their victory and deployed their tactics with precision. They are a very well established and supported club that will no doubt keep fighting till the very end In their quest to get out of this division. The title is sure to go down to the wire with plenty of twists and turns to pan themselves out yet.
On this showing though it has to be said that CUFC will have to raise their game if they are to claw their way back to the top of the table. I cannot believe that CUFC have only had two shots on target throughout the whole of this match and one of those was the penalty so it was definitely a bad day at the office today. We will have to just put this one to the back of our minds, dust ourselves down and go again next week. Players worthy of a mention today although nobody had an outstanding game would have to be Gift mussa in midfield who chased and chased until he was withdrawn, Chris Cox also never gave up and also chipped in with a late penalty. My man of the match today would have to be Robert Prinzel. The defence took a bit of a pounding today but Robert stood firm for most parts and made plenty of timely clearances throughout the game. His distribution when allowed was pretty good too so well played Robert Prinzel. I would like to mention the BSFC No11 Sean Brain who I think had a fantastic game and caused us problems all day long. He was a great threat, scored a great goal and also supplied a couple of assists too.
Finally the attendance today was a very impressive 924 with CUFC making a great contribution to that total. Next week we are at home to Studley so hope to see you all their next week to hopefully see us get back on track. PUCU
