Bromsgrove Sporting 4 (4) v (3) 3 Earlswood Town

Bromsgrove Sporting continued their pre-season warm up games with a win over Midland Combination Premier side Earlswood Town. A close fought contest was decided by the odd goal in seven and the scoring was complete by half-time.

Sporting went behind 1-0, to a goal which exposed a lack of pace in the makeshift back line but then led 2-1, and 3-2 before finally exposing Earlswood’s rearguard for an unanswered fourth time after the opposition had levelled at 3-3. After Earlswood’s opener, Sporting equalised through a Stuart Hall header from a sublime Kevin Banner cross.

It was Banner’s turn to score next for Sporting as he took a pass through the middle and stroked it home with his left foot. Earlswood then scored from a corner as Sporting’s defence got itself in a mess and failed to clear their lines.
Odane Barnes then scored from just inside the box but this lead was short lived as Earlswood took advantage of another defensive howler to score with a lob over the Sporting keeper who was caught out of position.

The winner came as Barnes received the ball and held off a defender before rounding the advancing keeper, who left his area empty and could only watch as the striker stroked the ball home from 18 yards before any defenders could get in a block.
That was the end of the scoring but the second half was as entertaining as Sporting edged and end to end contest to record their first win of pre-season.

The next Sporting fixture is a doiuble header of reserves and first team games at Redditch Ubited on Saturday with the first game between the two clubs reserves starting at 1 p.m.
