Match Report | Programme
It may have been Bromsgrove Sporting's season but it was definitely Lye Town's night as they ratcheted up an emphatic and deserved win against the League champions.

Heavy rain all day cast doubts on the playability of the pitch but it passed an inspection as play went ahead on a soft and uneven surface where at the start the home side generously applauded their opponents on to the pitch.

Sporting somewhat ironically had the better of the play for the first period of the match but despite Jason Cowley having two reasonable chances his efforts came to nothing.

Lye though who seemed to be more determined and coping better with the poor conditions gradually started to assert themselves and got their first goal on 26 minutes when Lee Chilton's corner to the edge of the goal area was tapped in by Adam Garmson.

The second followed a minute later when Guy Clark was caught in possession just outside the box by Jack Till and with Reece Francis way off his line the striker had no problem slotting home.

Number three also came from a corner on the 38th minute when Adam Meacham glanced in from Chilton's set piece and it could have been four just before the interval had Francis not made a good save from Till.

There was no let up from the home side as they came out for the second half looking to increase their already sizable lead and that nearly fell to Chilton whose effort was thwarted by Francis diving at his feet.

Time for the Bromsgrove bench to take action with a triple substitution bringing on Richard Gregory, Josh Quaynor and Harry Harris for Max Tranter, Aaron Williams and John Pykett. That seems to give The Rouslers a little more impetus and Charlie Price between the sticks for Lye was at least tested a couple of times by Gregory.

Sporting however were still slow to loose balls and all the punts up field were safety dealt with by the Lye back four who themselves seemed to find more space on the pitch than their opponents as they moved forwards.

If there was any chance that the away side could get back into the match, it was finally buried on the 80th minute when Chilton beat the offside trap before passing to Till whose angled drive took a deflection before hitting the back of Francis' net. Then three minutes later Francis mishit a kick out that bounced off Jack Wilson into the path of the hard-working Chilton who easily scored from 15 yards out for Lye's fifth.

Much to the relief of the large band of traveling supporters, referee Mr Genders finally blew for the end with just a couple of minutes added but that was not the halt to the proceedings as Cowley and Meacham were involved in an altercation that saw them both red-carded.

After the match one Lye supporter commiserated with a group of dejected Sporting fans and suggested that their team looked tired. Maybe that was the case but full marks to the home side who over two matches in six days played soem excellent football looked to be a far better outfit than their league position suggests.
