Match Report | How They Saw It | Programme
CAMERON PETERS bagged a hat-trick for Bromsgrove Sporting who continued their unbeaten start in Southern League Division One Central with a 5-1 victory over Aylesbury United.

The Walsall loanee struck twice in the first half along with Richard Gregory notching up another as the Rouslers took a 3-0 lead going into the break.

Skipper Craig Jones added the fourth just before the hour mark before a spirited Aylesbury outfit pulled one back from the penalty spot, with Aaron Berry slotting home.

However, Sporting were then given their own penalty with two minutes of normal time remaining, with Peters sending the keeper the wrong way to complete his hat-trick.

The result sees Brendan Kelly’s men lie third in the table having won three of their opening four fixtures, with their only dropped points of the season coming in the 1-1 draw at Sutton Coldfield on Bank Holiday Monday.

Having battled back to salvage a point at Sutton, Sporting took some time to settle into their rhythm today (Saturday) with William Shorrock and Charlie Dowd missing early chances.

It then needed a fine stop from Jonathan Brown at his near post to deny Aylesbury forward Harry Jones as the visitors looked lively on the counter.

But it would be Sporting who would break the deadlock in the 22nd minute, thanks to a superb strike from Peters who found the top corner after latching on to Dowd’s low cross.

Just six minutes later the Rouslers doubled their lead when some neat play between Gregory and Peters allowed the former to surge into the box and cross to the Walsall loanee who made no mistake from a couple of yards out.

Sporting, now in full flow, continued to press and bagged their third not long before the interval, thanks mainly to a surging run from Jack Wilson.

He ran deep from within his own half into enemy territory and chipped the ball through to Gregory who out-muscled his marker before slotting home beyond the advancing Archie Davis.

Just two minutes after the break Aylesbury skipper Jack Wood had to be quick to clear Peters’ chipped effort off the line before Davis had to save it his near post from Gregory just five minutes later.

However, Sporting’s pressure was rewarded just before the hour mark when Josh Quaynor’s corner was glanced by the head of Gregory whose effort was blocked but the rebound fell kindly to Jones to hammer home the fourth.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty moments later after Wilson committed a foul, with Berry sending Brown the wrong way to reduce the arrears.

This seemed to kick Aylesbury into action as they began to dominate proceedings and had more than enough chances to get themselves right back into the game.

Aylesbury’s biggest chance fell to Callum Mapley but after he found some space at the back post, he could only blaze an effort wide with the goal at his mercy.

Greg Williams then drilled an effort wide of the far post as the visitors went in search of setting up a tense finale.

However, Sporting were given the chance to kill the game off in the 88th minute when they awarded a penalty after Kieran Lataille brought down Peters.

Peters, after some deliberating with fellow striker Jason Cowley over who would take the spot-kick, fired in the final goal of the afternoon to complete his hat-trick and secure the three points for Sporting.
