Bromsgrove's clinical finishing proves too much for North Leigh
Visitors Bromsgrove Sporting move 2 points clear at the top after 5-1 victory over North Leigh who remain in the relegation zone. North Leigh continue the wait for their first league victory since August after a commanding performance in front of goal sees Bromsgrove Sporting run away as 5-1 winners.
The six-goal thriller was a very entertaining back and forth affair but the scoreline doesn’t do the hosts justice after 70 minutes of a hard fought battle but the Millers were made to rue their missed chances with the game in the balance conceding three goals in the final 20 minutes to put the match too far out of reach.
Bromsgrove were the first to get on the scoresheet after Jason Cowley coolly slotted the ball over goalkeeper Eddie Cavanagh just before the half-hour mark. At only 1-0 down the Millers looked very capable of keeping in the game and giving the table-toppers a run for their money but an unfortunate goal in injury time doubled the advantage before the break. Cowley again the scorer after a deflected shot looped over the helpless keeper.
Despite losing, North Leigh continued to keep their heads up and pushed hard to keep in the game with chances gradually being created. Their efforts were rewarded right on the hour mark as Henry Landers scored after a superb run through the defence marking his 5th goal of the season.
The following quarter of an hour made for a very tense game because at 2-1 everything was in the balance and could have gone either way. Both teams failed to make the most of their opportunities until the visitors restored their lead after 73 minutes with Jake Heath scoring right into the top corner after shooting from 25 yards.
Two further goals were conceded late on by Richard Gregory, the first of which was from the penalty spot having been brought down by the Millers goalkeeper. Bromsgrove’s 5th came on the 89th minute and rounded off for them a brilliant performance but left North Leigh nothing to show for their hard work.
