Bromsgrove Sporting ran rampant at the Victoria Ground on Saturday afternoon, with a 5-0 drubbing of Kempston Rovers.
Braces apiece for defender Tom Taylor and frontman Jason Cowley, plus a screamer from John Pykett, ensured that Sporting maintained their second place in the league.
The opener came eight minutes in, as a pinpoint Josh Quaynor corner was wilfully headed in with deadly accuracy by Taylor.
Kempston's opening chance was in the 17th minute, as Shane Bush saw his header from inside the box easily saved by Jono Brown.
Sporting would have to wait until 35 minutes in for the second, which was an exact carbon copy of the first - a Quaynor corner headed into keeper James Martin's bottom corner via a hearty leap by Taylor.
Winger Kieren Westwood had a couple of decent opportunities from range go narrowly wide but the first half scoring would come to an end in the second minute of additional time, as Cowley slotted home a penalty with consummate ease, after being felled in the box by Kempston stopper Martin.
Nathan Hayward had the first chance of the second half on the 48th minute, with a shot from inside the area charged down by an oncoming Kempston defender for a corner.
Cowley notched up his second seven minutes later, as a fine pass from Westwood allowed the striker to make space for himself in the area and fire home hard and low into the corner.
The visitors had another opportunity soon after, with Nathan Tshikuna forcing Brown into action by tipping over his close range shot from an acute angle.
Substitute Pykett almost got on the scoresheet after 68 minutes, as an enticing ball from fellow replacement Dan O'Sullivan saw him blaze over the bar with a golden opportunity from point blank range.
He would have to wait seven minutes more to complete the rout and demonstrate his trademark acrobatics, as he unleashed a 25 yard thunderbolt that fairly flew into the top corner, after being played through by Nathan Hayward. |
