An excellent three points on the road

This was Banbury's 40th visit to the Victoria Ground for a league fixture but the first time that the hosts had been Bromsgrove Sporting rather than Rovers. Their debut meeting finished as a great success as they inflicted Sporting’s first home loss for eighteen months. However, United got off to an unlucky start when Jack Westbrook fell ill during the pre-match warm-up, and was moved to substitute.
Banbury had the best of the early exchanges and it was completely against the run of play in the 19th minute when former Stourbridge stalwart Leon Broadhurst clattered the post with a fierce 20-yard drive which bounced back into play before being cleared. Five minutes later it was United’s turn to rue their luck when a shot from Jaanai Gordon was deflected into the side-netting. Banbury at last made their superiority count in the 29th minute when Anderson Cayola Villarroel placed a beautifully weighted pass through the middle for Gordon, who beat the offside trap before placing his shot to the right of ‘keeper Tony Breeden and into the net from 12 yards out.
Three minutes later, United doubled their lead when continued good build-up forward play resulted in Ricky Johnson slipping the ball inside to Roger Ngaah Bosia who blasted the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box, giving Breeden no chance whatsoever.
Gordon went close again in the 40th minute, but his shot went wide, and Banbury looked good for the points as half-time fell. The second-half was a little like a war of attrition as the home side pushed forward with greater urgency, and United had to defend for longer periods but with Johnson now moved back to centre-half they always looked fairly comfortable as the game neared its conclusion. Jack Harding’s handling was first class throughout, as was Johnson's centre-half play, winning everything in the air, to make certain of the points.
United could have given the score a more emphatic look in the last five minutes, firstly when Rasulo failed to pick out an unmarked Silva in acres of space and then when Silva himself set up substitute Mills who shot narrowly wide.
