Peterborough Sports finally got payback on their bitter rivals from last season, Bromsgrove Sporting, in a hard fought 3-2 victory on what was a cold afternoon. Bromsgrove came out of the blocks all guns blazing but it was Sports that got the first breakthrough. Josh Moreman, who had been causing havoc for the Sporting defence down the left wing from the start, managed to cut inside and get his shot off from 20 yards to then see it slip past the keeper on 21 minutes. Sports began to take control of the half and it wasn’t long before they were 2 nil up. Maniche Sani was brought down in the area and a penalty awarded. The ever-reliable Dan Lawlor stepped up and converted coolly to put Sports 2-0 up. Skipper Mark Jones added a third for Sports on 36 minutes as Maniche hassled the keeper and put the ball into the path of Jones who calmly converted into the empty net.

Into the second half, and Bromsgrove got a goal back within the first minute, a defensive mix up allowed Shaquille McDonald to pounce and score. Less than 10 minutes later, Bromsgrove had a second, a quick free-kick was ill-judged by Sports and McDonald was able to grab his second of the game and put Bromsgrove in control. Despite the constant pressure, Sports held on for the victory.
