A brace from McDonald added to Gregory's second half finish condemns Needham to defeat at Bloomfields.
Needham Market's frustrating home league form continues with a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Bromsgrove Sporting, who rise up a place to second with victory.

The Marketmen started brightly, Gareth Heath's right wing cross was flicked wide of the far post by Keiran Morphew from 8-yards out on 5 minutes. Bromsgrove meanwhile found Shaquille McDonald on rhe left outside the box whose strike was deflected wide off the bottom near corner for a corner to the visitors in the ninth minute. Needham however had a great chance to go in front on 10 minutes, Marcus Garnham's ball downfield was headed on inadvertedly by a defender onto Adam Mills through on the left wing to deliver a pinpoint cross to Craig Parker close to goal free at the back post to guide a first time volley towards the bottom left corner only for Platt to dive across well and palm away. Three minutes later, Gareth Heath's corner in on the left forced Broadhurst a couple of yards out at his near post to head behind for another set-piece. McDonald meanwhile curled a 20-yard free-kick on the left wide of the bottom near corner on 16 minutes, before giving Sporting the lead a minute later. Michael Taylor's shot was denied low by Garnham down to is left off his line as McDonald was on hand free on the right to tap home the rebound into the unguarded bottom middle corner, 0-1 Bromsgrove. Half-hour in McDonald had another chance, through right in the box the low shot was saved well by Garnham diving down at his near post to take the catch. The goalscorer then tried his luck again on 37 minutes, this time from the left edge of the box taking a deflection off Jake Dye as Needham brought the ball clear.

It was McDonald though who added to his and his team's tally for the afternoon on 41 minutes, Gregory's cross once more finding Michael Taylor on the far right hand side whose header is blocked just ahead of the goal-line by a defender at their right post though McDonald smashed home the rebound from close range into the bottom left corner, 0-2 Bromsgrove. The away side then had the final chance of the half a minute into added time, the free-kick on the right edge of the box was struck narrowly over the top far corner as Sporting led by 2 goals to nil at the break.

HALF TIME: Needham Market 0-2 Bromsgrove Sporting

The second half saw the Marketmen go close to pulling a goal back on a few occassions whilst a mishap at the back allowed Sporting to add to their first half lead, as it was Garnham who was first called into action in the second half, the shot on the right requiring the Needham stopper to reach up slightly and take the catch on 47 minutes, whilst Needham went extremely close to pulling a goal back two minutes later. Substitute Joe Neal's strike on the right edge of the box beat the bottom far corner by a mere inch. Adam Mills was then denied grabbing a goal back for the Marketmen on 57 minutes, the winger was set through to the left edge of the box catching the keeper off his line to lift a great strike over him towards the top corner which smacked the outside of the left post and went behind for a goal-kick. Garnham was then forced into another great save on 58 minutes, whilst Platt denied Needham a minute later.

Joe Neal this time through onto the right edge of the box to square across to Luke Ingram racing forward in the centre whose good strike was met well by Platt off is line well to dive down and smother just past his right-hand post, as Marsden headed the resulting corner in over the crossbar. On the hour-mark Michael Taylor had the opportunity to extend Bromsgrove's advantage, after a cross in on the right into the centre was headed wide of the far post. Richard Gregory though, involved in the other two goals was this time the man to finish off the move and round off the scoring- the visiting skipper through on the left-hand side in the box passed Garnham to slot home into the empty bottom middle corner, 0-3 Bromsgrove Sporting after 61 minutes. Bromsgrove overall were the more worthy winners, with the away team's latest chance coming from a 67th minute free-kick from the right edge of the Needham penalty area- with the header towards goal blocked, although Joe Neal had a low shot blocked on the right hand side of the Sporting area by a defender sliding across four minutes later. Needham meanwhile were centre-metres away from getting a goal back on 72 minutes, a great cross in on the right found Adam Mills close to goal but went just over his head, leaping in the centre. Callum Sturgess' 20-yard free-kick on the right a minute later then drew a comfortale save from Platt, curling it over the wall but straight into the keeper's chest. Joe Marsden then looked to catch Platt off his line with a great strike in the 74th minute, the shot from distance required Platt to recover well and dive to his right to take the catch. Marcus Garnham though prevented McDonald from picking up a hat-trick with 7 minutes remaining, the home stopper parrying away a cross in on the left under pressure on his goal-line, falling to McDonald whose shot at the bottom left corner was saved well by Garnham. The home defence were alert from the resulting corner, as a overhead kick from a few yards out at the left post was vitally blocked at the jear post, whilst Greg Mills' low long range shot on the left went just wide of the bottom left corner on 90+1 minutes, as Bromsgrove took the points as Needham's second to last home game of 2019 ended in defeat.
