Bromsgrove Sporting produced the ideal bounce back performance after Tuesday's FA Trophy humiliation, with an 8-0 thrashing of Leiston on Saturday afternoon.
A Greg Mills brace ensured Sporting would go into the interval with a two goal cushion, before the floodgates well and truly opened in the second half.
A 17 minute Mikey Taylor hat trick put the game beyond any doubt, with a Will Shorrock wonder goal and a neatly struck Richard Gregory effort swiftly following it.
The demolition job would be completed by Mills in the 78th minute, as Sporting extended their unbeaten run on the road in the league to five games.
The deadlock was broken just three minutes in, as a ball from out wide from Hayward caught the ferocious wind, resulting in the ball landing invitingly to the feet of Mills, who slotted home into an empty net, with keeper Charlie Beckwith in no mans land.
The second came 11 minutes later; a good spell of pressure, which saw Mills and Shaquille McDonald both have shots saved in quick succession, before a third shot from Nathan Hayward resulted in a handball offence - up stepped Mills, who side footed the ball coolly into the bottom corner.
Mikey Taylor had a smattering of chances to get amongst the goals in the opening 45 but was unable to find the target, whilst Rhys Henry and Joshua Hitter could not test Sporting stopper Jono Brown with their respective efforts.
The Rouslers would only have to wait four minutes into the second half for the third to come. It began with good pressure from debutant Dan Alessi, which allowed McDonald to win the ball and put a simple cross into Mikey Taylor, who took one touch, before dispatching a sweetly struck shot past Beckwith.
The fourth came two minutes later, as a supreme cross from Mills was headed onto the crossbar by McDonald, with Mikey Taylor bundling in the rebound from no more than a yard out.
Leiston's afternoon went from bad to worse 63 minutes in, as George Keys was given his marching orders for a rash, late challenge on McDonald.
This was swiftly followed by Taylor completing his hat trick, thanks largely to a delightful through ball by Mills that the prolific simply had to serenely poke home past Beckwith to complete his third hat trick in a Sporting shirt.
Leiston captain Harry Knights had a drive from inside the area smartly saved by Brown, which saw quickly followed by a moment of magic from substitute Shorrock.
The winger chested down a long ball from Josh Quaynor, which he then proceeded to expertly bicycle kick past the keeper from just shy of 25 yards.
It was seven in the 71st minute, as fellow substitute Gregory took a few touches to compose himself before unleashing a lovely drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
The scoring was completed by Mills 12 minutes from time; positioned out wide, the influential winger neatly worked some space, which gave him the opportunity to thunder home low into the bottom corner - Beckwith got fingertips to it, but could not keep it out.
Leiston substitute Harrison Bacon had a few chances late in the day to chalk up a consolation but these either flew wide or were unable to make their way past a resilient Brown, ensuring Sporting would get a clean sheet to accompany the eight goals they ruthlessly netted. |
