Club Notes |
Archdale's Football Club was formed in 1926 by factory workers from the Birmingham based Archdale Machine Tool Company. In 1926 the factory relocated to Worcester, during this time other sporting clubs were formed including cricket, tennis and bowling.
In the late 1950's the Archdale family sold their interest to Staveley Machine tools. By 1972 Staveley closed Archdales despite having made profits of 3m.
In 1973 the the workers bought the club.
The football club played in the worcester League for many seasons. By the 1987-88 season the club had joined the Kidderminster Premier League and finished runners up on goal difference. As a result the club were promoted to the Midland Combination.
After narrowly avoiding relegation in 2002-03, finishing 12th out of 15 a change in management for the 2003-04 saw Martin Stephens and Phil Stoddart replace Andy Frapwell.
Their impact at the club was dramatic, culminating in an incredible rise up the Division to near promotion, finally ending up in 6th position on goal difference, and winning the Worcester Nursing Cup also that season.
The following season of 2004-05 saw the Dales gain promotion to Division 1, winning the league with an impressive 76 points from 34 games proving what a massive step the Dales have taken in a short space of time under Eno and Phil.
In the first season in Div 1 they finished a creditable 10th, reached the final of the Nursing Cup losing to Droitwich Spa.
Season 2006-2007 saw a change in management with Phil Stoddart taking over from Martin Stephens who had left the club in the close season to become assistant manager at Malvern Town. Phil appointed Andy Widdowson as his assistant and together they finished 11th in the legue and won the Presidents Cup Final against Bartley Green.
The 2007-2008 season saw Archdales struggle for any consistency, players left and a large contingent went off touring Austrailia. With the Club hovering just above the relegation zone, Phil Stoddart decided to step down and take over as Youth Development Manager with Martin Stephens returning to the Club as first team manager. Stephens return saw 'The Dales climb away from relegation and finish 12th.
The 2010-2011 season saw Martin Stephens leave the club to take up a position at Malvern Town F.C. Former Huddersfield Town hardman, Darren Bullock took over the first team but later resigned to join Stephens at Malvern as his number 2. Player Ashley Banner took the reigns for 2 months whilst recovering from a knee operation before handing the job over to Worcester City Academy manager Mark Owen who later left after 4 games in charge. Graham Abercrombie dealt with first team affairs until the end of the 2010-2011 season before Martin Stephens returned to the post for the start of the 2011-2012 season.
