Tuesday night sees the second league game of the season against Gloucester City and given Rovers recent abysmal run it is somewhat surprising that a team which comprehensively turned us over 4 – 1 at home remains below us in the league. This is partly due to a good run in the FA Trophy which has seen them reach the First Round for a tie against Braintree on 15 December. Consequently, Gloucester have played only 15 games against Rovers 18 and currently sit 4 points behind us.
Gloucester are playing this season at Forest Green Rovers ground following the flooding in Gloucester in the summer. It seems they are still seeking a suitable home in Gloucester for the club after initial hopes were dashed. This also may account for the extra 50p charged on the gate with an £8.50 price tag for adults, £4.50 for everyone else and £1.50 for the programme. Whilst the programme is 20p more than our own those of you who have been to Gloucester before will soon see that its real value exceeds that paltry amount as it is recognised as one of the best programmes around.
On the injury front there is no news on Paul Lloyd or Chris Cotterill who were both subbed on Saturday. Lloydy looked to be struggling with a leg injury and Chris hit his head on the dugout wall when challenging for the ball. In addition, Kev Banner was forced to play 70 minutes but looked far from fit and Les Hines remains on the sidelines.
Since moving to Forest Green league crowds have been averaging just under the 300 mark so hopefully we can help Gloucester be somewhere near that number even on a Tuesday night in December. Certainly, the fixture is likely to attract Gloucester fans desperate to record their first double of the season.
The officials for the game are due to be a team from Coventry consisting of referee Mike Murphy, assisted by Pete Maton and Andy Stickley.
