Leiston 0-8 Bromsgrove Sporting - Match Report
By Craig Cooper

Blues lose big as mini revival falters

Leiston’s mini revival evaporated in Suffolk on Saturday as Bromsgrove Sporting won 8-0 to inflict a worst ever result on the Blues at Step 3. Rob Eagle and Tom Woerndl were out injured but Louie Bloom came back into the starting eleven.
The opening goal came in just the third minute. Leiston didn’t deal with a ball into the box and the lively Greg Mills made no mistake to fire the away side into the lead. Leiston struggled to get a foothold in the match and after 14 minutes, referee Jack Willmore pointed to the spot to give a penalty to Bromsgrove for an apparent handball. Mills stepped up to send Charlie Beckwith the wrong way to double his sides lead and net his second. Will Davies had a header deflect wide and from the resultant corner, home captain Harry Knights nodded the ball just off target. Rhys Henry fired off target before Michael Taylor blazed high and wide for Bromsgrove. Josh Hitter tried his luck for Leiston on the edge of the box but the ball went wide of Jonathon Brown’s left hand post. Greg Mills’ superb run down the left enabled him to centre to Taylor but he somehow missed from six yards. Just before the break, Brown’s punched clearance fell to Will Davies but he couldn’t direct his header over the keeper.

The game was finished as a contest in the 49th minute as Michael Taylor netted his first goal then he added a second two minutes later. George Keys was sent off for a late challenge in the 64th minute, while Taylor netted his hat-trick to finish well moments after. Subs William Shorrock and Richard Gregory added more misery to the home side while Greg Mills rounded off the scoring in the 78th minute to finish from an acute angle.

FT: - Leiston 0-8 Bromsgrove Sporting.

Meanwhile, there was better news for Leiston Reserves as they defeated Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves 2-1 at Walmer Road.
Kirkley took the lead in the first half through Connor Borrett but Leiston levelled as Albert Serra Parrondo tucked away a penalty and after goalkeeper Elliott Reynolds was sent off for Kirkley, Leiston won the match late on as Sebastia Pons Llado fired home a free kick to send the the side into the quarter-finals.

The ‘A’ side kept their unbeaten league run going as they beat Coddenham Athletic Reserves 5-0. A hat-trick from Ash Wilding and goals from Max Cowan and Callum Tucker gave the side all three points.
